Carcassonne: blind meal to raise vision impairment awareness

On Friday, December 2, the Table Ronde 87 Carcassonne group organized a blind meal at the Hôtel de la Cité to raise awareness among customers about visual impairment. €3,000 was donated to the association Entre Vues Audioises.

“Raising awareness of people with disabilities”, that was the goal of the Table Ronde 87 Carcassonne group. And the challenge is mostly fulfilled. This action group, which gathers men of all professional profiles between the ages of 18 and 40, has launched numerous mobilizations to help and highlight associations, especially those that help disadvantaged or disabled people. This collective regularly organizes collections of toys or clothes, “blood drives” or even distribution of sweets for hospital staff. “The round table has been renewed, everyone presents their goal and we do our best to work on it”declares Grégory Demontis, president of the association.

But the annual event remains a “blind meal,” which allows guests to be sensitized to the visually impaired. Thanks to this initiative, €3,000 of the profit was donated to the association Entre Vues Audioises, an organization that supports blind and partially sighted people in their daily lives and their procedures. Round table 87 decided on the fifth edition of this operation “to set the bar very high”. On Friday, December 2, 135 people ate a blindfolded star-studded meal, prepared by chef Jérôme Ryon, at the Hôtel de la Cité in Carcassonne. “It was another dimension, we were in an exceptional place, without disparaging the old buildings that welcomed us in previous years. Hôtel de la Cité played the game by booking us a festive meal”was moved by Grégory Demontis.

Local artists included

Upon arrival, guests could taste the local gin: Bohème. It was created by Vincent Pino and Freddy De Castro from the group “Les Sévillans”, and will be officially presented on Saturday 10 December. They were then blinded to being able to try an appetizer, an entree, two entrees, and a dessert. Joël Beltrand, spokesperson for Round Table 87 says: “At the beginning of the meal, the president of the association Entre Vues Audioises explained how to eat while blind. It was a fun and technical moment. And after each plate, the guests could discover the ingredients and tasted the wines. pleasantly surprised”.

For this occasion, five artists from the Carcassonne region participated in this event by donating one of their works. Between each tasting there are draws for winning creations by Cyril Oberhoffer, Olivier Barthe, Aurélie Lacroix, Léon.A and Pierre-Alexandre Marc, better known as “PAM”. And don’t worry for the unlucky ones, everyone left with at least a box of chocolates, offered by La Maison Bor de Limoux. As for the wines, they were provided by Arthur & Adrien, Château Festiano, and the Charpentier and Cantalauze estates. Not forgetting the digestif, the religious cream of Limoux. “Everyone played the game and could put themselves in the shoes of people with disabilities”, summarizes the chairman of the action group. However, Joël Beltrand would like to point out that this evening could not have taken place without the support of the Pujol family from the Cité Hôtels group, Ludo Charles, photographer and Sam Richez, director of the Hôtel de la Cité. “He trusted us very quickly and liked the concept. It’s just the first collaboration”.
