Pierre Hurmic received the mayor of Fukuoka on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of twinning

Fukuoka is the largest city on the island of Kyushu, one of the four important islands that make up Japan with Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, but in fact Japan is more than these four islands, about which we have more or less an idea. it consists of nine secondary islands and several hundred islands from the China Sea to the Pacific Ocean

In fact, it is a city that is much further south than Bordeaux on the globe because if Bordeaux is on the 45th parallel Fukuoka is at the height of the 33rd parallel or the latitude of Dallas in the United States or Damascus in Syria, which already had more of one million and five hundred thousand inhabitants in 2015. This shows how many Pierre Hurmic wanted to receive the mayor of this Japanese metropolis as well as possible Soishiro Takashima. He was received at the City Hall to discuss with the Mayor of Bordeaux the areas of cooperation between the two cities that have shared a twinning relationship since November 8, 1982. After the formal exchange and signing of official documents, he attended a festive dinner with the municipal councilors and the delegation of the Japanese city present in Bordeaux. The CCI President was present and proved that economic exchanges were at the center of the talks.

Set as a sign of “renewal”, this anniversary is an opportunity for the mayors of Bordeaux and Fukuoka to affirm:

- their convergence towards a common desire for active cooperation while promoting new topics in accordance with the projects of their mandate,

- their commitment to formalize this convergence by establishing a new “cooperation program” for the years 2023 to 2026.

And in this way, Bordeaux offers a partnership for the exchange of knowledge and achievements, enabling the raising of citizens’ awareness of social, environmental and economic issues, as well as ensuring the quality of their life by limiting the impact on the environment. To seal all these good intentions, nothing better than a good meal that will bring the relationships closer and so the guests were given a nice menu written in French and Japanese to follow the development of the feasts.
